Welcome

Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK where girls build their confidence and raise their aspirations.  We give them the chance to discover their full potential and the courage to be a powerful force for good. We give them space to have fun. We are where the girls want to be.

We are for all girls, whatever their background or circumstances.  Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and members of The Senior Section in Sussex East are offered opportunities to meet others, in their county, in the UK and throughout the world.

In 2016 we held five spectacular events for the 100th year of the Senior Section.  This included visits to Whipsnade Zoo, to sleep in pods and interact with the animals, over a long weekend, a tea and theatre weekend staying at Pax lodge, seeing Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Mama Mia, then afternoon tea on a River Thames boat. A long weekend trip to  Budapest and the South Africa Ultimate Experience.  A Grand Finale was held at Southease YHA in November, with a superhero theme and everyone dressed up as their favourite character. It began with a challenge to make new friends, fantastic fire show, delicious buffet and a disco, to dance the night away.  It was a wonderful end to an exciting year of 100th celebrations.

In September 2016 we held a Wings and Wellies event at Sheffield Park with 1200 Rainbows and Brownies enjoying a huge range of activities in six zones.  Every girl was given a goody bag including a pair of wings, as butterflies or bees. They looked lovely as they walked around the site.  Activities included crafts, visiting and holding birds of prey, 3 types of dance, woodland activities, wellie throwing, hook a duck etc. Each girl completed six activities over the day.  The day ended with a  spectacular bird of prey display.

Our final large event in 2016 was County Day, where we could say thank you to all our wonderful volunteer leaders. We offered a range of training to support leaders in their unit activities.  It was a chance to network and see what our county has to offer.  People came from all over Sussex East and enjoyed a day together, so we can continue to offer a wonderful, varied  programme across the county.

In the summer of 2017 we will be finding out more about our new programme for all sections. This is very exciting and will give even more opportunities to build skills over the units, with more continuity between, so our trainers will be busy in the Autumn preparing for its development, over the county and into next year.

We also look forward to the Rainbow 30th birthday celebrations and we are busy preparing a large event in May for all our youngest girls in our Rainbow units.  As well as large scale events, each unit will have its own celebrations.

We have so many opportunities to develop good Guiding in our county, so please take a look
at our website to find out more.
