BHAWFC 2025

November 2025

Denton and Newhaven Guides and Newhaven District Rangers were excited to be able to hold the UNICEF flag at the Brighton vs Leicester City Women’s Game at Amex Community Stadium.

We were looking forward to going to the game but then getting to carry the flag on the pitch made it even more exciting. We had to go a bit earlier to have a practice but we didn’t mind.

When we arrived we had to go onto the pitch to have a practice, it was very really fun to be able to go on the pitch. The flag was big and heavy, and we had to carry it onto the pitch, spread it out to cover the centre circle and then turn it around so it was facing the right way. It was just like a big, heavy parachute, but not as colourful and we weren’t allowed to play games with it!

After our practice Alice and Natasha made their Promise. It was a pretty cool place to do that.

We had a bit of time to wait before the start of the match so we went to the Terrace. We got food and drink, there was delicious peach crumble, and listened to the drummers.

Then it was time to take the flag out for real. Before we went on the pitch they warned us that the sprinklers may be turned on while we are there! We thought that would be fun but our Leaders were not so keen.

We opened the match by walking onto the pitch with the flag and opening it out. We started waving it and the players came out. There was fire and fireworks. It was fun but the flag was heavy and our arms ached by the end of it.

Afterwards we watched the game and Brighton won, yay! At the end we were able to meet some of the players which was very exciting.

It was an amazing day. Rangers Ava, Eva, Sophie and Tiff described it as… one of the best experiences, we loved seeing the fire and the players come out.
