From Bev, the County Commissioner
I’ve been a busy bee recently (well actually, my diary is pretty full most of the time!). There have been the usual County Committee meetings, as well as some visits out to events, and most recently I joined the Olave Programme team members at their planning day. I won’t say anything here about that (just remember to come to the briefing day on 8th November at the Hellingly Hub), but while I was there, I was given a gift.
Now I like a gift as much as the next person. But this was a bag of cards, which was a bit of a surprise! They were handed over on behalf of 2nd Newhaven District Rainbows, 1st Newhaven Brownies, Denton & Newhaven Guides, and Newhaven District Rangers.
The girls have all been working together on the County ‘Sussex at 60’ birthday challenge. One of the birthday challenges is to send someone a birthday card. So as the girls seem to understand ‘the County’ as a person, and that person is me which makes it my birthday, I got them.
I can’t tell you the joy I experienced when I opened them all. Some were fairly simple with a ‘love from’, some mentioned ‘happy 60th’, and some were full-on sparkles, sprinkles and shine! The above photo shows just a few samples, but each one had obviously been made with love, thought and care.
Apparently the girls all have received their badge (and you can still get them from naomibguiding@gmail.com) so give it a go if you haven’t already.
But just a word of advice – if the girls make cards for you (perhaps it is your birthday) – take care when opening the envelopes – my living room carpet covered in shiny ’60’ confetti pieces has really upset the hoover!
Thanks to Newhaven and Denton for celebrating ‘my’ birthday!
